"BLOOM" - the short film and art exhibition by Jesse Gassongo-Alexander
Bloom is a new coming of age short film by London based director and writer Jesse Gassongo-Alexander. The film centered around four teenage girls- Sabrina, Rianne, Tracey and Ruby. We enter the world of these girls at a point in their lives when they are just beginning to grapple with the greater issues of adulthood. Their world is a mélange of school subjects, dance routines, music and the looming issue of sex. In this film we get to see how they manage themselves internally and together as friends. As their summer comes to an end we realize that the sun may also be setting on a part of their youth that they will never be able to get back.
Part of the BLOOM project included carefully handpicking several young female visual artists and sending them out stills and a draft of the film. They were then asked to make brand new pieces in response to the film. The artists have come from an array of different places; Denmark, England, Holland, France, Bulgaria, USA, Thailand, Israel, South Africa, New Zealand & Australia .The themes and issues explored within the film are ones experienced in adolescents everywhere - something that is well depicted through all the artwork created.
Launched back in September, the Bloom project was introduced to the London scene. With an exhibition and screening held at the Copeland Gallery, London. The exhibition explores the themes of youth whilst delving into the world of plant symbolism. An event well received by the underground creatives of London, the Copenhagen edition features two fantastic Copenhagen based artists; Caroline Sillesen & Marie Rud Rosenzweig. Both who have recently had their own exhibitions at Vesterebro Showrrom & Vaerk Stedet.
The event shall be held at Astabar at Cinemateket on Gothersgade. The venue is being changed to create an immersive experience for you all. Thats all we can say for now.
